850 MILES AN HOUR V FASTEST SPEED ON LAND MR. JOHN COBB'S ACHIEVEMENT TWO RUNS ON SALT LAKE BED By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright NEW YORK, Sept. 15 A new world motor speed record was created to-day at Bonneville Salt Lake, Utah, by Mr. John Cobb, of London, whose two runs averaged 350.20 miles an hour. The first was covered at a speed of 353.29 miles an hour and the return run at 3<17.11 miles an hour. Mr. Cobb said he did not feel nervous. Ho believed his Kailton had still more potential speed. Captain G. E. I'. Kyston immediately announced that he will attempt to recapture the record to-morrow in hi.i Thunderbolt car. Captain Eyston on.August 27 created a world record of 3Jf>.l9'miles an hour at Bonneville. Mr. Cobb is a stockbroker by profession. This is his first attempt to break the land speed record, but he is well known on the lirooklands track, where he drdve a speciallv-built car. The car in which Mr. Cobb broke the record was designed by Mr. ReidRailton, who was associated for many years with Sir Malcolm Campbell, a former holder of the record.
