NATIONAL LEAGUE

AUCKLAND EAST BRANCH JUNIOR MEMBERS' DANCE GLENDOWIE COUNTRY CLUB Vases of spring; flowers were used to decorate the entrance hall and various lounges of tho Glendowie Country Club last night, when a dnneo was held there by members of tho Auckland East branch of the Junior National League. Bowls of stocks shading from rose pink to lilac, golden Iceland poppies and daffodils, and purple and scarlet anemones, wero arranged in the various rooms, whilo in each room a large fire was burning for tho comfort of the guests. The special guests of tho evening were the National Party candidate for the electorate, Mr. H. T. Merritt, and Mrs. Merritt, who was wearing turquoise, green and cherry patterned crepe suede. Mr. Merritt briefly addressed those present during the evening, while sprays were presented to Mrs. Merritt and to Lady Robertson by Mrs. Francis Sprague, chairman of the ball committee. A telegram was received from Mrs. J. G. Coatcs, regretting her inability to bo present and wishing the committee success with the ball. Wilcox, turquoise blue lace with a cherry scarf; Mrs. Spackman, "white floral chiffon; Mrs. Reginald Humphries, opera violet suede; Mrs. Alan Motion (Waiuku), black Chantilly lace; Mrs. Keith Angus, white pebble crepe; Mrs. B. There was insufficient accommodation in the new rooms, and the "\\ inter Show hall had to ho used. Elocutionary items given by Miss K. Seddon, dancing by Miss M. Scrimshaw and songs by Mrs. C. F. O'Connor, with Mrs. H. J. McMullin as accompanist, were much appreciated. The National Party candidate for the Hamilton seat, Mr. W. A. Grant, thanked tho ladies for the great work thev were doing. The president of the ladies' committee, Mrs. A. A. McLean, received the fue'sts. She was wearing a frock of lack cloque, and a white fur coat. Mrs. Grant was in bottle green French silk.
