SEATS IN HOUSE

MANY CANDIDATES 175 NOW ANNOUNCED TWO MAIN POLITICAL PARTIES ALMOST FULL TICKETS With the closing date for nominations of candidates for the general election fixed for October 3, tho campaign strengths of Hid two main parties are already substantially determined. The Labour Party has completed its ticket and unless the National Party decides to contest three electorates which it is not at present expected to enter, this party has only one more candidate to select. Labour will go to the polls with 78 candidates, of whom 54 are sitting members, the only member of tho present. Government who is not seeking reelection being Mr A. Campbell (Chalmers), whose constituency has disappeared as the result of boundary changes. The party does not intend to contest two electorates, Nelson and Mataura, held respectively by Mr. H. At more and Mr. D. MeDougall, Independents, who arc apparently regarded by the Government as its supporters on policy matters. Nationalists and Independents The only outstanding National candidature expected is that lor Grey Lynn, where a selection ballot is to be held on Tuesday. Seventy-six National candidates have been selected and with the Grey Lynn candidate there will be 77. This' leaves only three electorates — Egmont, Wellington North and Wellington West —without candidates. The sitting member for Egmont, Mr. 0. A. member of tho party, as is alsp Mr. It. A. Wright (Independent), member for Wellington Suburbs, who is contesting the new Wellington West seat. In tho Wellington North electorate another Independent candidate, Mrs. Knox Gilmet', a daughtor of the late Richard Seddon, has been announced and seemiliply the National Party is not going to oppose her. - Other Candidates In addition to the lot Labour and [National candidates announced, there lire 21 other candidates for 19 electorates.
