NURSES' BUSY MONTH MANY CASES ATTENDED PREPARATIONS FOR CENTENNIAL The report of the charge nurse, Miss Chapman, presented at the monthly meeting of the committee of the Plunket Society yesterday, showed that the district nurses had had a very busy month. It was stated that 21 '5 new hnbv cases had been seen, 1356 home visits had been paid, and 8354 mothers and babies had visited the various offices. In the pre-natal section .38 new expectant mothers had been seen, 222 return visits had been paid to the department, and 235 mothers were under supervision.
M iss Hunt, matron of the Truby King Karitane Hospital, read the hospital report. Five mothers and 20 babies, she said, bad been admitted during the month of August. Mrs. R. P. Towle, convener of the newlyappointed house committee, also reported on matters concerning the hospital. A donation from the Birkenhead subcommittee of £'s 5s to the general funds of the hospital and £5 5s to the furnishing fund was acknowledged. Notification was received of two bequests made to the society from tho estates of the late Miss Ellen Astley and the late Mr. Henry Hvatt.
A circular was read from the executive of the council asking for the cooperation of branches in the erection of a Plunket pavilion at tho Centennial Exhibition in Wellington in 1910. Tlie annual general conference of the society is to be held in Wellington in November. The 16 delegates whi£h the branch is entitled to send will be appointed at the next monthly meeting. After the next monthly meeting a morning tea party is to be held to farewell Miss Hunt, whose resignation from the hospital staff takes effect from the end of October.
