NATIONAL PARTY
CANDIDATE HONOURED DEVONPORT BRANCH DANCE A dance to enable members of the Devonport branch of the National Party to meet the selected candidate for the Auckland East electorate, Mr. H. T. Merritt, was held in the Masonic Hall, Devonport, on Tuesday night. Accompanying; Mr. Merritt was Mrs. Merritt, who wore a frock of larkspur blue taffetas, with wing sleeves lined with silver lame. The guests of honour were received by the convener. Mrs. L. Fish, who wore black ring velvet. Bed, white and blue streamers decorated the hall, and on the stage, lilies painted in the same colours, made an effective centre piece. BRIDGE AND MAH JONGG MILFOPD BRANCH'S FUNCTION H Over 200 people were present at the Pirate Ship Cabaret at Milford last night, when the Milford women's branch of tbe National Party held a success-
ful bridge and niah jongg party. T'ho decks were attractively arranged with bowls of daffodils and frepzias, while, in the vestibule, bowls of anemones
and ranunculi gave a bright touch of colour.
The guests were received by Mr. J. D. Vernon, and Mrs. Vernon, who wore a frock of diagonally striped black and white satin and a white fox fur. Assisting them \\as the chairman of. tbe Milford women's organisation. Mrs. W. N. Hutchinson, who wore black taffetas. Hostesses who made up tables included Mrs. .T. Hall, Mrs. V.
