DESERTER SURRENDERS
FIREMAN ON STEAMER TERM OF TWO WEEKS' GAOL The story of a man who surrendered himself to the police after deserting his ship was fold in the Polico Court yesterday. A ship's fireman, Christopher Condon, aged 27, admitted a charge of deserting from the Mamari. Representing the shipping company, Mr. F. M. Dougherty said accused was missing when tho vessel was timed to sail on Thursday morning, and his position had to be filled. Accused said he was dissatisfied with the living conditions on the ship, and he wanted to stay ashore to improve himself.
The magistrate, Mr. C. R. Orr Walker, sentenced accused to two weeks' i 111 prisonment.
