RANFURLY SHIELD

QUESTION OF CHALLENGE [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] DUNEDIN, Monday It was reported to the weekly meeting of the Otago Rugby Football Union to-night that no further information had been received from the Mamuvatu Union regarding its special challenge for the Ranl'urly Shield. At a previous meeting Manawatu had been offered September 24 for this match. It was decided to send a telegram to the Manawatu Union asking for a definite reply regarding its desire for a shield match. The Northern Union is to be given until to-morrow to make a reply. It was pointed out that the Ashburtain Union was also desirous of playing Otago for the shield on September 24, but that Manawatu's challenge came first. For next Saturday's match against Southland it was decided to open the gates at 11.30 a.m. and to play two curtain-raisers prior to the main fixture, which commences at three o'clock.
