GIRLS' GRAMMAR SCHOOL CELEBRATIONS CONTINUED REUNION TEA PARTY HELD The jubilee celebrations of the Auckland Girls' Grammar School were continued on Saturday, when a tea was held in the evening. It was attended by nearly 700 old girls of the school. Long trestle tables were arranged in the school hall, while others wero placed in the gallery to accommodate the guests.

Kour toasts were honoured. .Miss Myrtle Burns presided. A notable speech was that of .Teanette Wells, the 1938 head prefect of the school, whose perfect delivery and choice of words when proposing the toast of the Old Girls' Association were applauded by all present. The toast was responded to by Mrs. A. M. Nicholson, president of the association. Other toasts were "The School," proposed by Mrs. R. H. Ward, one of the earliest mistresses, and responded to by Miss K. M. Johnston, present headmistress; "Mistresses Past and Present." proposed by Miss A. W. Whitelnw and reponded to by Miss Cecil Hull.

A brief programme was presented by Miss Patricia MeLeod, Miss Sybil I'liillipps, Miss Irene Rich and 31i ss Meryl Harvey, who sang, and Miss Thoral Keefe, who gave violin solos. The accompanist was Miss Mildred Spargo. A letter from Mrs. Gordon, formerly Miss Blanche Butler, a past headmistress of the school, was read by Miss Kate Edgerley. hi the letter Mrs. Gordon conveyed her best wishes for the success of the jubilee and her warm affection for her former pupils. It was unanimously agreed to send a cable to Mrs. Gordon at her home in Bulawayo, South Africa, extending greetings from the old girls. A large iced cake, modelled on a design of the school, was the mam feature on the tea table. The 50 candles were lighted by five old girls and extinguished by five others, the president, -Mrs. Nicholson, cutting the cake and distributing it among those of t , )e even j n <r passed in cheerful reminiscences and the renewing of old acquaintances.
