Knight, secretary of the Bay of Islands Herd Testing Association, who resides at Kawakawa, found his house to be burning fiercely. Making his escape through a window after collecting some clothing, Mr. Knight gave the alarm, but as a strong easterly galo was blowing the building quickly became a blazing mass. The fire brigade concentrated on saving the premises next door, which it was successful in doing. The house, which was destroyed, belonged to Mr. J. F. "Wall. None of the furniture, which belonged to Mr. Knight and was practically new, was saved. The house and furniture were both insured, but Mr. Wall and Mr. Knight are heavy losers.
