SETTLERS LEAVE FARMS

HEAVY LOSSES SUFFERED INSPECTION BY MR. J. THORN [by telegraph—OWN* correspondent] THAMES, Monday The flooded areas at Matatoki and adjoining districts were inspected by Mr. J. Thorn, M.P., and Mr. H. Lowe, chairman of the Thames County Council, this afternoon. Mr. Thorn had previously telegraphed to the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. R. Semple, requesting that immediate action be taken to improve the conditions of the Matatoki and Bond's Road settlers. Many of the settlers on Bond's Road have suffered heavy losses as the outcome of flooding over fctrge areas of their farms on several occasions this winter. Several times this year the country in this locality and around Komata has been covered with large stretches of unusually deep water, which has remained on the land in some parts for weeks at a time. In consequence the losses of stock have been high. Oni Bond's Road some of the farmers havo already walked off their farms.
