CONSISTENT GOLF

LADIES' TOURNAMENT FOURSOMES CHAMPIONSHIP NEW ZEALAND RUNNERS-UP PLAYERS BELOW FORM By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received August 26, 8.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, August 26 Playing very consistent golf, Miss Sydney Jones and Miss V. Ebert won the Australian women's foursomes championship. The strong New Zealand combinations, Mrs. R. S. Fullerton-Smith and Miss P. Helean and Miss J. Horwell and Miss V. Fleming, played below form. ~

Miss Jones and Miss Kbert returned a score of 81, 85—166, while Mrs. Fullerton-Smith and Miss Helean were runners-up with 82, 87—169. Miss Horwell and Miss Fleming were in fifth. position with 84, 87—171. The scores of the other New Zealand competitors were as follows:—Miss M. lllston and Miss Crowe (Australia), 84, 89—173; Mrs. Guy Williams and Mrs. D. A. Crombie, 89, 87 —176; Miss J. Hornabrook and Miss Bell, 86, 91—177; Mrs. Lan Mcßao and Miss Sale, 90, 95 —185; Miss B. Rutherford and Miss Cameron, 94, 94—188. Mrs. Fullerton-Smith and Miss Helean, after a birdie three at the first hole in the morning round, took four putts at the second, and from then onward putted without confidence. Their play as a whole was unsteady. In the afternoon round Miss Helean was completely out of touch, slicing her woods and irons and generally giving Mrs. Fullerton-Smith poor support. Miss Horwell and Miss Fleming began badly in the first round, being out in 43, seven over par, but they improved coming home. Their afternoon round was marred by very weak putting. Miss Fleming, who previously had been brilliant on the greens, missed several putts of two feet and less. Miss lllston and the 17-year-old Sydney player, Miss Crowe, playing on a 10 handicap, won the 18 holes stroke handicap, played in conjunction with the first round of the championship, with a net score of 74.

Miss Rutherford, who was granted permission to play in waterproof slacks 011 Monday owing to the pouring rain, created a surprise by appearing similarly dressed to-day, when brilliant sunshine prevailed.
