MORGUE IMPROVEMENTS

APPORTIONING THE COST ATTITUDE OF MOUNT EDEN Following representations to the City Council by the Auckland and Provincial Funeral Directors' Association, the Mount Eden Borough Council was approached by the City Council last night for a share in the cost of improvements to the public morgue in the Domain. It was suggested by the City Council that the cost of £350 be shared by Newmarket, Mount Albert and Mount Eden councils on a population basis. Proposals included widening the carriageway, easing sharp bends, regrading the road and widening the enclosure at the morgue to allow two vehicles to pass. Tho council decided to request the City Council for further information Oil the project. - "I think that we should decline to make payment under the existing arrangement," said the Mayor, Mr. R. J. Mills, "why should we be asked to contribute largelv to the cost of the jfiorguer which is shared by many other boroughs?" -~
