FLIGHT TO DUNEDIN

FAST TRIP FROM MANGERE THREE HIGH SCHOOL OLD BOYS [BY TELEGRAPH; —OWN' CORRESPONDENT] DUNEDIN, Tuesday A fast trip was made yesterday from Auckland to Dunedin by the Auckland Aero Club's Beechcraft piloted by Mr. H. J. D. Lambert. The actual flying time from Mangere to Taieri was four hours 50 minutes.

The flight was arranged by three old boys of the Otago Boys' High School who wished to attend the 75th anniversary celebrations and found that air travel was the most suitable method of transport, especially in view of the fact that one of the party was an elderly man. The three enthusiasts were Messrs. E. H. Titchener, who was a pupil from 1877 to 1879, A. E. Hammer (1894-96) and AY. McPherson (1910-12). The machine left the Mangere aerodrome at 6.50 a m. and the lirst hop was made to Christchurch, the flying time being three and a-half hours. After a rest of half an hour the final stage to the Taieri aerodrome was covered in one hour 20 minutes, the aeroplane circling over the school as it passed over the city. In an interview the pilot said that in the North Island conditions were cloudy from Mangere to Wanganui, hut were clear for the rest of the way until cloud was encountered over Otago. The winds were light and variable. The trip had been a smooth one and had been greatly enjoyed by the passengers.
