"I am quite unable to accede to the request that Ferguson be allowed to keep his licence. The only question is whether the defendant should be imprisoned." Ferguson was fined £25 and his licence was suspended for 12 months.

Constable C. ftobb said that on the afternoon of August 6, which was the occasion of tho Peace Cup Pugbv match at Tuakau, he saw accused trying to start a motor-car at the side road. When examined by a doctor some time afterward, ho was certified to be unfit to drive. Mr. A. P. King, for accused, said that he was attempting to shift the car, -which belonged to a friend who had taken him to the match. "I am quite satisfied that defendant merely attempted to piove the car," said the magistrate. He added that, on account of accused's age, he would not inflict a fine, but would order him to come up for sentence if called upon within 12 months. He was also ordered to pay tho doctor's fee, £2 2s.
