TENANTS INSTALLED A DELIGHTED COUPLE POINT CHEVALIER BUILDING All the excitement of setting up a new home, with delight at their ability to secure a modern, comfortable dwelling at a" rent within their means, attended the moving in of the first tenants of the newly-erected blopk of pensioners' flats in Pelliam Avenue, Point Chevalier, yesterday. The tenants received a surprise visit from Mr. J. A. Lee, Parliamentary Under-Secretary in charge of Housing, Dr. D. G. McMillan, M.P. for Dunedin West, and Mr. G. H. 0.. Wilson, M.P. for Hangitikei. Pride in their new home was clearly flshown by the tenants, an elderly couple. The wife eagerly displayed the modern fittings, and contrasted the neat flat at 16s a week, with a 2s rebate for prompt payment, with quarters they occupied recently at.£l a week. Possession of the flat was doubly welcome as tho tenants had lost their home at Wanganui during the depression, being unable to keep up their payments. Heart-felt gratitude to the Prime Minister, Mr. Savage, Mr. Lee and others who had made their new home possible was expressed by the first tenants. They were delighted to receive the visitors yesterday. The flats, the first of type to bo opened in Auckland, are planned for two people eadh and comprise sitting room with bedroom alcove, kitchen and bathroom. There is a community washhouse at the hack and round the block is an area of ground at present being laid out in lawns and garden. Of pleasing design, the flats are complete with stove, benches, cupboards and wellequipped bathroom.
