REPRESENTATIVE GAME MATCH WITH CANTERBURY VITAL CHAMPIONSHIP FIXTURE Arrangements in connection with the representative match between Canterjury and Auckland, to be held at Caraw Park on Saturday, were finalised it last, evening's meeting of the Aucksind Hugbv League, when, in addition Lo this fixture, it was decided to play ['oiiaoul>\ against Marist, which leads :lu; stnioi championship. The deputy-chairman, Mr. E. J. Phelan, said that there was a possibility of Marist vinning the championship outright, sliould it succeed in beating Ponsonby, in which case :he remainder of the second round would not [jo played. The secretary, Mr. I. Culpan, said that [he Canterbury team would arrive this morning and would stay at the Metropolitan Hotel. Arrangements in regard to entertainments were approved. An informal welcome tvill be tendered the visitors this afternoon. Mr. It. Doble was appointed manager of the Auckland team and Mr. J. Rukutai manager of the Canterbury team. Mr. Phelan intimated that he had heard coiiiplaints about undue interference by the firemen on duty at C'arlaw Park. He said that patrons had been, moved from the pas-sage-ways and the stand had been declared full when seats were vacant. "The by-law as it stands at present is a farce, and, while the fireman may be only doing his duty, we are losing revenue each Saturday," he said. It was decided not to tako any action, but to discuss the matter again should further complaints be made. The Mount Albert Club wrote pointing out that an effort 'should be made- to improve the standard of play in the senior reserve grade. The letter stated that several of the c-lußs were definitely superior to others, and it was evident that not sufficient attention was being given to the calibre of players by the senior A teams-. Mr. Phelan said that the object o( -the reserve grade was to promote the chances 01 plavcrs likely to become first grade players. It was decided to discuss the question later in the season, and to thank the Mount Albert Club for its suggestion. After hearing the evidence of Shadbolt, a Mount Albert forward, who was ordered off last Saturday in a senior match against Manuknu, it was decided to take no action. Mr. R. Hardgrave, who returned on Monday after playing as a professional in England and France, was extended a we come. He gave an interesting talk on football in those countries.
