INSTITUTE AFFAIRS

Tuakau. —There was a good attendance at the monthly meeting of the Tuakau Institute. Mrs. McElwain gave an address on China and also spoke on institute matters. A demonstration of the making of wool rugs on a sewing machine was given by Mr. I row. Ihe monthlv competition was won bv Mrs. Ramsay. It was decided to hold a series of monthly card evenings. Mount Albert. At the monthly meeting the following groups were formed: —Gardening circle, _ convenei, Mrs. Harvey; dramatic circle, convener, Mrs. Ireland; arts and cults circle, convener, Mrs. Jones. Mrs. Drummond gave solos, accomapnied b.v Mrs. Tait, and an exhibition of woollen tovs was given by Mrs. Findlav. J lie president, -Mrs. Howson, announced that the membership had passed 100. Afternoon tea was served by Mrs. Smith and the committee. Biieklamls Beach.—Miss I'oster presided at the monthly meeting, and Mrs. McElwain gave a talk on institute matters. A mime, was presented by Mesdamcs Wells, lllingworth, Allen, Shaw and Brookes, and competitions were won by Mesdamcs Kluver and Smith. Glenbrook. —At the monthly meeting the president, Mrs. Gearon, made a presentation to Miss Bellingham in honour of her approaching marriage. Miss Allcock gavo a recitation, and Mrs. Binet spoke on tlio Solomon Islands. Posies were given to Mrs-. Binet, Miss Allcock and Miss Bellingham. Competitions were won by Mrs. Hudson, -Mrs. M(Crystal and Miss Pearman. Paninure-Mount Wellington. The monthly meeting was presided over by Mrs. Coatcs. Smocking was demonstrated by Mrs. Henderson, and the drama circle read a plav. The competition was won b.v Airs. Burgess. Jubilee. —There was a large attendance of visitors at the third birthday celebrations held recently, at which .Mrs. Hogarth presided. Items were given by .Mesdamcs Bowler. Mclndoc, Cooper-Smith, Hogarth, Wilson, McLaciilan, Snell, Misses Yvonne McLachlan and Joan Laurensen. The winners of the competitions were Mrs. Fowle and Mrs. Pitman. The hostesses for afternoon tea were Mesdames Bowler, Bendall, Fowle, Thornley, Park, Terry, Scott, Monds and Nelson.
