DEATH IN LONDON

MRS. GEORGE BEETHAM BRILLIANT AMATEUR PIANIST [from our own correspondent] LONDON, July CO The death of Mrs. Beetham, widow of Mr. George Beetham, formerly of Wellington, took place on July 17 after a very long illness, at the age of 81. Mr. and Mrs. Beetham were formerly well-known residents in "Wellington, and they had a wide circle of friends in London, where thev settled many years ago. Until her last illness Beetham kept close contact with New Zealanaers here and attended functions of New Zealand interest. All her friends remember her as a brilliant pianist, particularly as an exponent of Beethoven. Many musicians, indeed, placed her in _ the front rank among amateur pianists. After an accident a few years ago she was not able to play again. South Kensington had always been her home centre in London, and at her parish church of St. Jude, Courtfield Gardens, the funeral service was held this afternoon, followed by cremation at Golder's Green. The chief mourners were Major Hugh Levin (nephew), Mrs. Vogal and Mrs. Hawkins (nieces), Major F. W. \ogel and Mr. Brian Vogel (great-nephews), Miss Levin (great-niece) and Mr. John Hawkins. Among others present at St. Jude's werei —Captain Hawkins, pr. Atkinson, Mr. S. Edwards. Miss Fergusson, Miss MaeDonald, Mrs. H. liolleston, Mrs. F. Moore, Miss V. Russell, Mrs. C- J. Wray, Mrs. Reginald Hoare, and Miss Gwen*Nelson. Beautiful floral tributes were sent to the church.
