AIR-LINER TURNS BACK
60 MILES -AN HOUR WlNb . SERVICE TO AUCKLAND Head winds up .to 60 miles an houiy encountered south of New Plymouth, resulted in the pilot of the northbound Lockheed air-liner of Union Airways, Commander K. A. Brownjohn, deciding to turn back to Palmerston North yesterday morning. The machine carried four passengers and a quantity of mail for Auckland. . After about an hour and a-half in the air, the Lockheed landed again at Palmerston North., Southern mails vrere transferred to > express last night and will Weach Auckland this morning. The aeroplane remained at palmerston North for the night. It will be flown to Auckland early this morning to undertake the run scheduled to commence from Mangere at eight o'clock. Southern services of Union Airways were completed yesterday, in spite of unfavourable weather. One of the fourengined De Havilland machines was 45 minutes late in reaching Palmerston North after flying from Dunedin. Cook Strait services were cancelled on socount of the weather.
