TAURANGA HARBOUR

EXTENSION OF BOAT JETTY [BT TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] ' TAURANGA, Tuesday The extension of the boat jetty south of the railway wharf at an estimated cost of £665, was approved at a meeting of the Tauranga Harbour Board. The board approved an application by the Tauranga Yacht and Power-boat Club for the reclamation of a small portion of the foreshore as a storage place for small yachts. The Controller of Civil Aviation advised that should Tauranga be included as a regular stopping-place on an air route it was probable that it would have its own aeradio station. The chairman, Mr. A. J. Mirrielees, reported that 12,500 trees had been planted on the board's property at Matakana Island. The beacons marking the fairway to the new wharf constructed at * Matakana Island by Whakatane Paper Mills, Limited, had been completed according to the requirements of the Marine Department.
