COMING ELECTION

WAITEMATA SEAT the national candidate MR. J. E. CLOSE CHOSEN A ballot among 143 delegates representing 2300 members of the New Zealand National Party ia the Waitemata electorate, held at the Albany Hall last night, resulted in the selection of Mr. J E. Close, of Takapuna, from four nominees as National Party candidate to contest the Waitemata seat at the general election. Mr. G. Mills, chairman of the Auckland division of the National Party, presided over an attendance increased by the presence of a largo number of supporters, apart from delegates. The four candidates were Mr. Close, Mr. A. McGregor, of Devonport, the Rev. W. C. Wood, of Devonport, and Mr. R. H. Greville, of Northcoto. Each addressed the meeting for 15 minutes, an extra five minutes being allowed for questions. The ballot was then taken. After farming at Kerikeri, North Auckland, for many years, Mr. Close settled at Takapuna about 12 years ago. He is a former member of the Takapuna Borough Council. Well known as a stock-breeder and valuer, and an authority on sheep, Mr. Close visited England some years ago as a member of the Empire Woolgrowers' Conference. He is a former member of the Tsew Zealand Council of Agriculture, and a former director of thfe North Auckland Farmors' Co-operativo, Limited.
