FIRE ON LINER

August 7 Fire broke out this morning on the Hamburg-Amerika's luxury liner Reliance in a room in which there were stored decorations for fancy dress balls. The vessel was due to leave this afternoon oil A world cruise with 400 passengers. All the city's fire brigades were called out. The fire was still not completely extinguished at 2 p.m. The outbreak, however, was idtimateiy controlled after five hours. Ine entire midships was burned out. „ Several persons were injured and A night watchman was killed. One of the most noted world cruise ships, the .Reliance is a liner of 19.580 tons gross. Engaged solely in world cruises she is specially designed for tropical voyages and her interior design is well to the fore in modern practice. Under the command of Gaptain H. Kieff, the Reliance visited Auckland last April for a four days visit, her stay in port coinciding witir that of the Empress of Britain.
