RANFURLY SHIELD
CHALLENGE BY MANAWATU RULING AS TO THE DATE [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION*] DUNEDIN, Monday A copy of a letter sent to tho Manawatu Rugby Union in reply to its request that Otago should accept a challenge for the Ranfurly Shield to ho played next Saturday was received from the secretary of the New Zealand Rugby Union at a meeting of the management committee of the Otago Union to-night. As a result of the ruling contained in the letter, the position now is that, as previously decided by Otago, Manawatu can accept September 24 as the date of the challenge against Otago.
