FREEDOM ASSOCIATION

Sir, —The attempts made by Labour s|H?akers to belittles the above association because it dicl not protest against legislation passed about three years before it came into existence reminds one of the fable about the sheep and the lamb. But, with their usual skill in the art of omission, these speakers forget to say anything about the vital difference between then and now. In my opinion, the prolongation of the life of Parliament was a reprehensible act, but it did not deprive? the citizen of his right to vote; it only deferred for a year his opportunity to exercise that right. But the Labour Government has passed Acts destroying the property rights of the citizens, giving Ministers despotic and irresponsible power, and, finally, if a citizen feels that he has suffered loss by the act of a Minister, depriving him of his right to appeal to the King's justice—a right granted for all time to British subjects by the Great Charter —and compelling him to appeal for justice to the very man against whose action he is protesting. Anyone can see how much more destructive of liberty and property these acts are than one postponing an election for a vear. A. War burton.
