FORMAL FAREWELL
SIR MAURICE HANKEY EVE OF RETIREMENT LONDON, July 28 An historic party was held at A\ hiteliall this afternoon when Sir Maurice Hanker, who recently resigned from the positions of clerk to the Privy Council, principal secretary of the Cabinet Secretariat, and secretary to the Committee of Imperial Defence, attended his last Cabinet meeting before retiring on Saturday.
Every politician who had served in the successive Cabinets during Sir Maurice's secretaryship was invited. These included Mr. J. H. Thomas, Mr. Winston Churchill, Lord Parmoor, Lord Hewart, Lord Mcrrivale, Sir Auckland Ceddes, and £ivil servants and defence chiefs.
