NAVAL CONCERT

BRIGHT ENTERTAINMENT An entertain ins blend of music and humour was presented in the concert chamber of the Town Hall last, night, when a programme was presented liy the liarmonica concert band of 11.M.5. licandcr, by the permission of Captain W. Mivett-Carnac, K.N., the Auckland City Hoys' Hand, and assisting artists. The concert was entirely au amateur one, arranged with the object of raising funds for the boys' band, which is conducted to encourage a love of music among the youth of the city. The concert chamber was tilled.

A stirring march, "Homo Again,'' played with creditable vigour and skill by the boys' hand, opened the concert, a high standard being reached by the youthful performers. "Hold 'l'hou My Hand,'' a vocal duet, provided a pleasing contrast to the first item, ami tho performers, Masters A. Gold and AY. Glenn, were accorded a warm round of applause at tho conclusion. Following items bv H.M.S, Loander's harmonica band, played with rhythm and force under the baton of LeadingSeaman \V. V. Hogan. Miss Ngairo Ungues sang "Good Night. My Love." A tenor solo by Mr. S. Duncan, "The Fairy Tales of Ireland," was well received, and tho audience gave the singer another ovation lor his rendering of the Irish melody "Mother Mncliroe." Highlights of tho second half of the programme were the items ol the harmonica hand and a number of Hill Hilly songs by a naval instrumental ami vocal combination. A humorous sketch by Mr. Jack Kilev and Ophir Hoes contained some (left comedy touches and was lightly and skilfully handled by the performers. The romantic charm of the traditional song, "The Moral Dance," was cleverly brought out. by the singing of Mr. W. Jones, who gave a delightful rendering of this difficult solo. A humorous dialogue entitled "Matrimonial Stakes," by Miss June Button, a cornet duet by the Church sisters, and further bnrmonioa items concluded the programme.
