ARRIVAL IN DOMINION RELIEVING LABOUR SHORTAGE POSITIONS IN THE WAIKATO DAIRY COMPANY'S ENTERPRISE [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] HAMILTON, Friday The arrival of eight young Scots farm hands in Wellington to-day wa.s a sequel to nn interview between Mr. C. J. Par lane, general manager of the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company, Limited, and Mr. A. L. Thompson, in Mr. Parlane's office in Hamilton some months ago. Mr. Pari ano stated this evening that Mr. Thompson, a yotmg Scotsman, had spent some time in New Zealand working on farms and as a freezing works butcher. As he was returning to Scotland, he suggested to Mr. Parlane that he should select suitable young farm hands to come to New Zealand to relieve the labour shortage in this country. Mr. Parlane said he approved of the suggestion, and took immediate steps to adopt it. Tine Time Selected Returning to Great Britain, Mr. Thompson worked in co-operation with Mr. J. B. Wright, the company's London manager. Eight young men, who had excellent references and were described as being of a very fine type, were selected, and arrangements were made in New Zealand for them to take up farm positions immediately they arrived. Six of them had each entered into a 12 months' contract with their prospective employers, and arrangements were now being made for similar contracts with respect to the remaining two. All the men had paid their own passages to New Zealand. Arrangements on Arrival Through the courtesy of Mr. J. D. Hislop, the Hamilton placement officer, Mr. Parlane continued, it was arranged fop a placement officer to meet the men oil their arrival in Wellington to-day. They were to be shown round Wellington, and seven of them were to be placed on the limited express this evening. Two would be met at r le Awamutu and five at Frankton by their new employers, while the eighth man would come north to-morrow. Positions had been found for all the men in the le Awamutu, Hamilton and Waharoa districts. Mr. Parlane added that the men had come out to New Zealand under the auspices of his company.
