UNEMPLOYMENT RETURNS

Sir, —The return as published iji the Hebald of July 20 does not show how many men are employed on No. 1.3 scheme. There must be several thousands of men receiving full-time work with loe.al bodies where the Government is paying the whole of the wages out of unemployment tax. These men have also to pay unemployment tax, although the wages they receive come out of unemployment funds and also, the farce of it, the men must join the union and pay union fees. The Government will find that the public is not so very easily. gulled. Taking the huge sum of £."5,000,000 directly out of the earnings of taxpayers for the relief of unemployment does not agree with the returns as published in tfye press. Puzzlkd.
