HATCHING OF TROUT

LIBERATIONS THIS WEEK WORK IN ROTORUA AREA IMPROVED FACILITIES [BY TELEGRAPH OWN CORRESPONDENT] KOTORUA, Tuesday It is expected that the first liberations of trout fry in the Rotorua lakes district will be made about the end of the present week, which will be at least one month earlier than has been customary in previous years. This has been made possible by the completion of the new and more commodious hatchery on the slopes of Mount Ngongotaha, the capacity of the hatchery being approximately 2,250,000 ora. As a result of the increased facilities stripping at Tokaanu has been considerably accelerated this season and already about 2,000,000 ova are hatching at Ngongotaha. In order to accommodate about 500,000 brown trout eggs from the South Island, which will arrive at Ngongotaha this week, further consignments from Tokaanu are in the meantime being diverted to Waikaremoana, where the new hatchery, with a capacity of about 600,000 ova, will also be operating at capacity by the end of the week.
