SPORTSMAN'S DEATH

Mr. J, Russell, whose death occurred at his home in Epsom on Monday after a prolonged illness, was one of* Auckland's best-known sportsmen. He was connected with boxing for 30 years, being chairman of the Auckland' Boxing Association's management committee for 15 years'. He was asked on several occasions to take the office of president, but never accepted. He was a life-member of the association. Mr. Russell was in the first rank as an amateur billiards player, taking part in many championships. He was timekeeper at several amateur athletic carnivals, and was a member of the Carlton Bowling Club, the Titirangi Golf Club and the Auckland Trotting Club.
