Mr. T. Caughey returned from a visit to America yesterday by the Monterey. Mr. Harvey Turner was a passengerMM by the limited express from Wellington yesterday morning. < Messrs. A. S. Richards and F. W. Schramm, M.P.'s, returned from Weill ington by the limited express yesterday morning. The Hons. A. Burns, T. Bloodworth and J. Trevethick, M.L.C.'s, arrived yesterday morning by the limited express from Wellington. The Hon. H. B. Gibson, M.L.C., of Fiji, arrived by the Monterey yesterday to spend three weeks in Auckland. Ho is at the Station Hotel. Mr. E. G. Martin, general manager for New Zealand of the Atlantic Union ' Oil Company, Limited, left for Wellington last night by the limited 5 express. Mr. C. E. Brown, manager in Sydney for the Matson Navigation Company, who has been on a business visit to Auckland, left last night by the Mon- • terey for Sydney.

Captain James P. Rasmussen, port' superintendent to the Matson Navigation Company at Honolulu, was a passenger on the Monterey, which left Auckland last night for Sydney.

Mr. T. C. A. Hislop, Mayor of Wellington, has resumed his official duties, but has not yet fully recovered from the severe cold from which he was suffering at the beginning of the week.

M. Jose Balthasar, Consul for Belgiuin in Australia, accompanied by Madame Balthasar, was a through passenger to Sydney by the Monterev yesterday, after a holiday trip to America.

Mr. C. C. Odlin, of Wellington, managing director of the C. and A. Odlin Timber and Hardware Company, Limited, arrived by the limited express yesterday to join his brother, Mr. A. E. Odlin, director of the firm's Auckland business, and Mrs. A. E. Odlin, who will leave for Vancouver by the Aorangi on Tuesday. They expett to return to New Zealand in September.

Professor IT. P. Van Dusen, professor at the Union Theological Seminare, New York, and chairman of the Student Christian Movement in the United States, arrived by the Monterfcy yesterday from San Francisco. He was accompanied by Dr. W. Horton, professor of theology at the Oberlin School of Theology. Professor Van Dusen is to stay in Auckland about five days, but Dr. Horton will spend about a month in New Zealand. Both will attend the third international missionary conference to be held in Madras in December.
