BIRKENHEAD BOROUGH
HOSPITAL LEVY INCREASE ARMAMENT DEPOT ACCESS The Birkenhead Borough Council was informed at a meeting last night by the Auckland Hospital Board that its contribution this year would he £1351 13s 6d. This amount represents an increase of £364 3s lid. Messrs. A. Hadfiold, N. R. Stewart and N. J. Campbell were appointed to attend tho conference of local bodies this evening at Auckland to consider the incidence of hospital rating. A letter was received from the Public Works Department regarding the representations made for access by road to the Kauri Point armament depot. It was explained that provision had been made for most of the supplies to and from the depot to be transported by water. A new wharf, with a heavy duty crane, had been provided with this object in view. The Mayor, JVIr. E. J. Osborne, said the information had been asked for to assist in consideration of tho offer made toward maintenance' of Balmain Road.
Permission was granted for a street collection to be held on July 29. Seventy per cent of the proceeds will go to the orphanages of Auckland and the suburbs, and 30 per cent to tho Society for the Protection of Women and Children.
