MOTORIST PROSECUTED
SEQUEL TO ACCIDENT
FINES TOTALLING £8 IMPOSED Charges of negligent driving, supplying false information and of driving a car when not possessing a driver's licence were preferred against James William Gillespie in the Police Court yesterday. Defendant did not appear in answer to the charges. Evidence was given police and several other witnesses that defendant had hired a motor-car from a city firm on April 10 and on the same day had collided with a cyclist, who spent a number of days in hospital as a result of injuries suffered in the accident. The magistrate, Mr. C. 11. Orr Walker, fined defendant £•"> on the negligent driving charge, £2 on the charge of supplying false information and £1 for not possessing a driving licence. Defendant was ordered to pay costs totalling £2 l(js, and the magistrate directed that he was to be prohibited from obtaining a driver's licence for three months.
