WARNING PROSECUTIONS
MOTORISTS CONVICTED
WESTERN VIADUCT SPEEDING
Prosecutions on charges of exceeding the speed limit on the Western Viaduct were brought by the Auckland Harbour Board (Mr. Fordor) against three motorists the Magistrate's Court yesterday. Mr. Forder said that warning notices stating the speed limit was 10 miles an hour were displayed at each end of the viaduct and all three defendants had exceeded 30 miles an hour. He drew attention to the danger of high speeds because of the narrowness of the carriage-way and because other traffic entrances opened on to it. As it was stated that the prosecutions had been brought as a warning against excessive speeds on the viaduct, the magistrate, Mr. J. G. L. Hewitt, said he would impose a nominal penalty. The three defendants were convicted and ordered to pay costs, 10s.
