ANNIVERSARY EVENING
CALEDONIAN SOCIETY FUNCTION AT OTAHUHU Over 200 members and friends of the Otahuhu Caledonian Society met in the Otahuliu Public Hall on Saturday evening, when the third anniversary of the founding of the organisation was celebrated with a ladies' evening. The entire arrangements were carried out by the ladies' auxiliary. A particularly effective decorative scheme was utilised for the stage which created a fine impression. A background of I?oval blue draping was surmounted with the Scottish Standard and scarlet shields emblazoned with the Lion Rampant. The society's colours, the Clan Cameron tartan, and sprigs of native and New Zealand-grown heather decorated the guests' table. The piping-in of the officials and guests was carried out with appropriate ceremonial. The president of the ladies' auxiliary, Mrs. J. M. Deas, the Mayoress. Mrs. C. R. Petrie. and Mrs. T. Ambrose (secretary), were preceded by a lady piper, Miss Gray, and three tiny children attired in full Highland dress. A dance programme was interspersed with Scottish songs by Miss Stewart and Mrs. Rattray, elocutionary items by Mrs. Culford Bell, and Highland dances by Elva Handling. The accompaniments were played by Mrs. J. E. Gillies and the piping for the dances by Mr. J. Cowper. The old-time dance music was plaved by the society s ilia vers, Messrs. R. Jack. J. Allan and M. Kav. Mrs. A. Stephen and Mrs. Mclvor were in charge of the programme. ___________
