BOYS IN A YACHT

CRUISE OF 2000 MILES DRIVEN INTO MEXICAN BAY DETENTION BY AUTHORITIES (Received June 24, 6.10 p.m.) MEXICO CITY, June 23 After cruising 2000 miles, the yacht in which three boys left California on May 26, was driven to-day into Banderas Bay, on the west coast of Mexico, by a storm. The boys, who told the authorities they intended to search for buried pirate gold, were detained.

A cablegram from San Francisco on May 26 stated:—Three boys aged 16 to 17, high school students, stole a 52foot sail and auxiliary engine yacht belonging to a business man at Santa Cruz, California. They stocked up the craft with food supplies and began a cruise on the Pacific which is designed to take them to Hongkong via Honolulu.

The owner of the vessel says the boys have sufficient petrol on board to enable them to cruise indefinitely, and, since one of them "apparently took the precaution to study navigation and mapped out an extensive route, their cruise may become just that, particularly in view of the fact that the yacht is seaworthy, comfortable and fast. Ho conferred with the adventurers' parents and expressed only concern for the safety of the boys and his vessel. He remarked: "I hope the youngsters can get the yacht somewhere without wrecking her and putting their lives in danger."
