LIST OF ENTRIES THIRTY-ONE IN STEEPLES PREVIOUS WINNERS ENGAGED [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] CHRISTCHURCH, Friday The Canterbury Jockey Club to-day received the nominations for the six principal events to be decided at the New Zealand Grand National Steeplechase meeting in August. The total nominations reached 222, against 219 last year. Details are as follows, last year's figures being shown in parentheses:— Grand National Steeplechase, 31 (32); Winter Cup, 52 (56); Beaufort Steeplechase, 34 (36); Grand National Hurdles, 37 (29); Sydenham Hurdles, 32 (29); Lincoln Steeplechase, 36 (37). All of the leading steeplechasers in New Zealand are included in the list for this year's big race, including the previous winners,. Valpeen (twice), Royal Limond and Nocturnus. Irish Comet, who was third last year,is again nominated. Santoft, last year's Wellington Steeplechase winner, Clarion Call, lied Sun,' Black Banner, Quinopal, Bally Brit, Burwood, Koyal Banquet and Flashlight have all been winners this winter and Jolly Beggar, Bryce Street, Brigadore, Punchestown and Arctio Star have raced prominently. The Grand National Hurdles has also attracted the best available material from both islands. Last year's winner, Cottingham, is off the scene, but the minor placegetters, Clarion Call and Brigadoro are engaged. Winners this year to date are Jolly Beggar, Courtyard, Donegal, Silk Sox, Urination, Corban, John Charles, Inness Lad, Lono Haider, Full of Scotch and Spender, while several others have shown good form.
