INVALID PENSIONS

GOVERNMENT DEFENDED HAMILTON MEMBER'S ADDRESS [from our own corrkspoxoent] HAMILTON, Friday "I am proud to be one of those who voted for the measures which made it possible for invalids to receive a pension," said Mr. C. A. Barrell, JI.P. for Hamilton, addressing a large attendance of supporters at Hamilton East. "There are almost 800 people in Hamilton alone who are in receipt of an invalidity pension, and under previous administrations they were given little or no consideration." Rumours were rife that the Government, if returned to power, would take possession of private property, continued Mr. Barrell, who strongly denied these assertions, saying th,at it was hard to understand what the Government would ho able to do with the property even if it did confiscate it. As a matter of fact the Government had provided greater security for holders of property than had ever previously been enjoyed. , Dealing with the construction of State houses, the speaker said that, although the Government had not made as much progress as it wouUJ have liked, a good deal had already been done.
