CONFERENCE TO BE HELD ALL SECTIONS AFFECTED For the puprose of discussing the hospital levy and considering what action could be taken, the Mayor of Auckland, Sir Ernes-t Davis, intends at an early date to convene a conference of local authorities in the metropolitan area. When making this announcement yesterday in the course of his iinancial review to the City Council, ho stated that all sections of the community were affected, because everyone paid rates, either directly or indirectly. Sir Ernest also stated that he was approaching the Minister of Health, the Hon. P. Eraser, with the request that the Director-General of Health, Dr. M. H. Watt, should be allowed to attend the conference as representative of the Government. Of the total which tho board requires for the present year, £82,634 is maintenance levy and ±.11,0U0 capital lew. The largest contributory body is Ciiristchurch City, which has had an increase made in its allocation from £36,926 last year to £.'38,6(52 for the coming year.
