ACTION DELAYED
EFFECT OF REQUISITION MOTIONS TO BE CONSIDERED SPECIAL < MEETING CALLED Although a majority of the City Council decided yesterday that the rates for the current year should be the same as those for last year, the decision can have no effect until Mr. J. A. C. Allum's motion to rescind the decision is dealt with by the council. In the notice of motion handed to the town clerk yesterday by Mr. Allum he has called for a special meeting of the council on Friday, July 1. He will then move that the resolution carried at yesterday's meeting, "That the rates this year be the same as those last year," should be rescinded, and that there be substituted the original motion moved by the Mayor that the estimates be approved and adopted, and that public notification be given of the intention to strike rates for the current year totalling 4s 53d. Supporting Mr. Allum's notice was a requisition signed bj r Miss E. Melville, Messrs. Allum, R. S. Judson, J. W. Kealv, H. P. Burton, A. Howey Walker and Dr. R. G. McElroy, as follows: —"Pursuant to Clause 31 (2) of the council's standing orders we hereby append our signatures and request that no action shall be taken under the resolution until the proposed motions, as above, have been dealt with by the council." This formal "request" has tho effect of preventing action until the notice of motion is dealt with.
