GOVERNMENT DEFEAT
LABOUR AMENDMENT LIFE-INSURANCE ISSUE SURPRISE IN AUSTRALIA CANBERRA, June 17 The Government was defeated by 37 votes to 25 in the House of Representatives, when 11 Government supporters crossed tlie floor "to vote for a Labour amendment excluding life-in-surance offices from the right to become approved societies under the National Insurance scheme. Although the clause was considered to be important, the carrying of the amendment will not affect the passage of the bill through the House.
