FORM DISCUSSED

GOOD YOUNG JUMPER BRYCE STREET GOES WELL DOUBLE FOR FULL OF SCOTCH BY ARCHER Some good form has been displayed nt the Auckland Racing Club's Winter Meeting and some of the horses may place themselves further in the limelight when the gathering is concluded to-day. One who has brought himself into much prominence is the hack hurdler Full of Scotch, who has achieved two easy wins, scoring by three and a-half lengths on the first day and by eight lengths with a stone more on the second. A course of schooling has evidently made Full of Scotch more solid than he was formerly and he is the outstanding horse in his class at the meeting. All going well he should not find promotion from hack to open class a bar to further success.

Although defeated in the Great Northern Steeplechase by Valpeen, the five-year-old Bryce Street confirmed the impression that he Was a good stayer and this was not surprising in view of the stout blood in his pedigree. The connections of Bryce Street are acting wisely in not over-racing him at present,' and 1 he should be all the better for this as ; the season advances. Present indications are that he is likely to be a strong contender for honours in important jumping' events later in the winter, and he is likely to be' one of the early fancies for "the Wellington Steeplechase and the Grand National Steeplechase. Stout Staying Blood As he is young as steeplechasers go, Bryce Street has plenty of time to improve and the future for him appears bright. Ho is a good typo of bay gelding, by Swift Flight from Madam Rose, by Extractor from Alba Rose, by Seaton Delaval from Vieux .Rose, by .Hippocampus, and he belongs to tho same family as the Auckland Cui>. winners Waimangu and Santa Rosa. He was the youngest runner by two years in the Great Northern Steeplechase, tho next youngest to him being the seven-year-old Clarion Call, who tired in th»- very heavy going on Thursday, and was pulled up when beaten some distance from home. Clarion Call is one of the exceptions among the stock of Hunting Song, who nearly all revel in bad ground The return to winning form by the 10-year-old Valpeen in an important race like the Great Northern Steeplechase was a surprise to many experienced racing men, as the idea existed that he had gone past his best. Probably ho is not as good as ho was a few seasons ago, but his owner-trainer, Mr. G. Campbell, deserves credit for getting him back to his present standard of form after he had appeared to have been a spent light. Valpeen is one -of the finest fencers who has raced •iff"4he••-Domitfion in recent years and a" feature of his racing has been his good jumping. Power Ohiel Promising

The heavy state of the track when the Great Northern Steeplechase was run was not to the advantage of either Erination or Jolly Beggar. 'Nevertheless, Erination made a fine bid for victory and, aftoi being prominent throughout the running, was a very creditable third. On a firmer track Erination might have made it more difficult for Valpeen and Bryce Street, who beat him home. Jolly Beggar went well for about three miles but then tired. Jolly Beggar may be a good prospect for the Grand National Steeplechase at Riccarton, where the ground does not become as heavy as <it Ellerslie: Erination and . Jolly Beggar both gave fine displays of jumping. A very promising young steeplechaser is the Hunt Club Cup winner Power Chief, a five-year-old gelding by Tractor from Asterism, by Lord Quex from Asterina, by Merry Moment from Asteroid, by Apremont from Planet, _by Castor. There is some good jumping blood in this pedigree and it is on the cards 'that Power Chief will make a fine performer as his powers become .more, fully developed. One factor in his favour is' that he is not lacking in size and looks susceptible to much improvement.''.?
