NEWTON TO PLAY MARIST
■ i Interesting matches should be witneued at Carlaw Park this afternoon when the first round of the Auckland Rngby League's senior grade competition "will conclude. In view of the fact thit Newton and. Manxikau, both of which are at present equal on the chamat different times on No. 1 ground, added interest is given the draw. Newton will play Marist in the maiflf game. The former has shown consistent form throughout the season, and a close contest is anticipated, in spite of the absence,of three of the Marist Club's members with the New Zealand team in Australia. If the game is dominated by $8 forwards Newton will prove a hard side to beat.
There is the promise of spectacular foot--I*ll in the curtain-raiser to be played between Ponsonby and Manukau. The former « notable 'or its -bright displays and, should give enthusiasts a thrilling exhibition. Ponsonby will have to show.improved form to succeed. A much improved team,' will be Men in action on No. 2 ground against Mount Albert, which is a strong team. An even, game ihould result. Richmond will meet City in the ttriy game on No. 2 ground.
