GALLIPOLI TROOPS fourth reunion held TRIBUTE BY THE MAYOR Over 200 returned soldiers were present t the fourth annual reunion of the Gallipoli Association, held last night in tW Town Hall" cohcert chamber. Mr. E. Webley, president of the association, presided. The Major, Sir Ernest'-'Davis, and Major-General Sir George Richardson, who yisit&d the reunion at the conclusion of the City Council meeting, were wai-mly welcomed. Sir Ernest expressed his pleasure at being present and hoped that ho would be permitted at the next reunion to remain for tho whole evening.
•■f feel truly honoured to be among you, and on behalf of the citizens whom I. represent I extend heartiest greetings," Sir Ernest said. 'Citizens do not forget the, tortures you went through, and although some people .think the soldiers of that day are being forgotten,, that- is not true. A new generation is growing up, but thero is fctill-,a generation, of which I am a member, which wjll never forget you." Mr. Webley urged that all the 011 members of the association should give it their financial support and that an effort should be made to enrol other returned soldiers who were eligible for membership. Upon his motion the date of the next reunion of tho association was changed' to Anzac •week. The following toasts were honoured: The King; "Fallen Comrades," proposed by the president and' honoured in silence, the Last Post being played by Mr. R. Wills; "Tho Aussies," proposed by Mr. H. M. Clark and replied to by Mr. E. T. Titchener, president of the Auckland branch of the Australian Imperial Forces Ex-Servicemen's Association.
