REMOVING CROSSINGS
IMPROVEMENTS TO HIGHWAY PROGRESS NEAR ROTORUA A further improvement to th<» Rotorua highway, by the elimination of two level-crossings between Tiran and Rotorua, is in progress. The necessary earthworks near Tirau have been completed for some time, and the overhead bridge on which the railway will be carried is nearing completion. The crossing at Koutu, on the outskirts of the Rotorua borough, is being eliminated by an overhead road bridge. In order that the approaches shall be on a straight alignment, it has been found necessary to have traffic use a temporary detour at the side of the existing road while the work is in progress. A metalled detour has been provided by the 'Main Highways Board. A third level-crossing on the same road, in the Marriakus, wr.s replaced by an overhead road bridge which has been in use for some months.
