RULE ABUSED [by TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Tuesday The draw for the Chatham Cup competition was approved at to-night's meeting of the council of the New Zealand Football Association. It was decided that the finalists in all centres should be found by July 10. The draw is as follows: —July 23, Westland v. Buller, at Westport; July 23, Auckland v. South Auckland, at Hamilton; July 30, North lslqnd semi-final, at Auckland (Wellington v. South Auckland or Auckland); August 0, winner of the Buller-Westland game v. Christchurch, at Christchurch; August 20, South Island semi-final, at Dunedin (winner between Buller and Westland v. winner between Christchurch and Otago); September 3, Dominion final, at the Basin Reserve, Wellington. The associations are to be instructed that, in the event of a drawn game at the end of 90 minntes' play, extra time must be played. Should any game still end in a drawafter extra time the game will be replayed on the following Monday. Clubs must adhere to the itinerary, as the council will not consider any alteration in dates. The competitions committee has given careful thought to the interests of the competing clubs in arranging the series of games and has avoided counter-attractions in the centres where tho matches are being played. "Some associations and referees appear to be losing sight of the spirit .of the replacement rule." said tho chairman, Mr. J. A. Milburn. Replacements were allowed up to and including half-time, he said, and in a recent match a player had gone on after the second spell had begun. Clubs should be informed that they should have at least 12 players in readiness at each game and then there would be no delay. In one match a referee had been asked to adjudicate as to whether a player was injured sufficiently to be replaced. That was not tho duty of the referee, but of a doctor'or ambulance man. Mr. F. Campbell: The sole judge of whether a player is injured must be the man himself. Mr. Milburn: We have to guard against malingering. Mr. Campbell: That word annoys me. Thero is no such thing as malingering on a Bports field. Mr. F. Sanders: Let's call it "swinging the lead." It was decided to notify the various associations that clubs should have at least 12 players in readiness.
