REDUCTION IN RATES
NEWMARKET BOROUGH ASSESSMENT FOR THE YEAR A reduction of a penny in the consolidated rate for the toining year, was announced Inst night by the Mayor of Newmarket, Mr. S. Donaldson, at a meeting of the borough council. He gave notico of intention to strike a rate of 2s lid in the pound at a special meeting of the council on June 28. The rate last venr was 3s in the pound. Members of the council congratulated tho Mayor and Mr. R. E. Newport, chairman of the legal and finance committee, upon the decision, especially in view of what was foreshadowed in other areas.
