NEW COASTAL SHIP
THE DAPHNE REAPPEARS STEAMER RECONSTRUCTED LAUNCHING THIS AFTERNOON A new span of usefulness lor the former steamer Daphne, for many years one of the passenger fleet of tho Northern Steamship Company, will begin this aternoon with her launching in St. Mary's Bay as the Awanui. In the past two and a-half years the vessel has been almost completely rebuilt by Shipbuilders, Limited, for A. G. Frankham, Limited, and will begin running on the coast at the end of next month. Built in 1907 by W. H. Brown at Auckland, the Daphne, of 192 tons gross, was at first owned by Mr. A. J. Farmer in the service from Auckland to Kawau. She was shortly afterwards taken over by tho Northern Company, under which flag sho served until about seven years ago. The Awanui will be launched at high tide about three o'clock this afternoon. She will be fitted as a motor-vessel, and her Diesel engines will reach Auckland by the Mariposa on Friday. The new ship will bring tho fleet of A. G. Frankham, Limited, to a total of five.
