WESTFEELD QUOTATIONS VALUES VERY FIRM GOOD DEMAND FOR COWS Tho firm dairy values of the past few weeks were well maintained at the Westfield weekly stock sale yesterday,: when top values improved by 10s a head. Tho yarding was one of the largest for some time and there was also a good bench of buyers, including farmers from the Waikato. The number of outstanding quality cows andheifers was not so large proportionately a3 in recent weeks. The best realisations were £l3 for Holstein and Jersey-cross cows, while Jerseys and Shorthorns of good quality made up to £ll. In the store section the demand was a shade duller than usual, but there was no material weakening in values. Boner cattle were a few shillings easier, and potter bulls of top grade were fewer in number. MATIERE OFFERING [bt telegraph OWN correspondent] TAUMAETJNUI, Thursday Dalgety and Company. Limited, reports a yarding: of approximately 2500 t sheep and a good offering of cattle at Matiefe. There was a representative attendance of buyers v f.Tom Morrinsville, Cambridge, Te Awamntu, Stratford and Te Kuiti. Competition was keen, all good lines of sheep, young ewes and ewe hogrgets in particular, being the subject of animated competition, and values were in excess of any realised locally so far this season. A good yarding of wethers realised very satisfactory prices. • The cattle offered were only of medium quality and changed hands at current rates. Quotations:—Sheep: Two-tooth ewes, r.w. SOUND SALE AT HASTINGS [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] HASTINGS, Thursday One of the soundest sales for some weeks was held at Stortford Lodge yesterday. Both fat cattle and ewes were easier, but tho recovery of the store sheep market after more than a month of lifeless bidding more than offset these tendencies. There was a comparatively large entry of 6000 store sheep of better than average quality, and a good clearance was effected. For the first time for fivo or six weeks thero were no lines of sheep affected with facial eczema. Quotations were:—Best woolly cwo hoggets, to 26s 6d; medium ewo hoggets, from ISs to 21s Cd; best woolly wether hoggets, to 19s 9d; medium Southdown hoggets, to 14s 6d; inlamb five-year ewes, to 27s 6d; same, lacking condition, 8s 7d to 21s 6d; old ewes, down to lis 7d; best store wethers, to 24s 9d; good forward two-tooth wethers, 23s 3d to 245. A larger entry than usual in the fat ewe section resulted in a fall of 2s a head. The top price was 26,s Gd for an exceptional line, but few lines made over 20s Best wethers made up to 2Ss; prime, 24s to 25s 3d; light. Southdown, to 22s 3d. Lambs sold at little above the export schedule. Fat cattle dropped £1 in value in an entry almost double the normal size. It was a dragging sale. RUAKAKA CLEARANCE [from OUR OWN correspondent] WHANGAREI. Thursday The clearing sale conducted by Walter "Wakelin on account Of Di H. McCathie at Ruakaka proved an outstanding success and was one of the best sales held in the district for some time. The herd of 75 cows, which came forward in excellent condition, met with a groat demand from a large attendance of buyers, a good portion of the rattle going to the Waikato and the King Country. All the sound cows realised from £8 to £ll 5s and made the excellent average of a shade over £9 per head. Several unsound cows made up io £6. Red Poll hulls made from (P/gns to lOgns; a pedigree Shorthorn bull, BVagns; two-year-old empty Shorthorn heifers, £4; Shorthorn heifer calves, £2 4s; three-year-old fat steers, £lO 10s.
