GOVERNMENT'S VICTORY ONE RETURN TO GOME CAPETOWN. May 20 Tho stato of parties in the House of Assembly as the result of the South African general election, with one return outstanding, is as follows: United Party 11l Nationalist Party .... 26 Dominion Party .... 8 Labour Party ...... 3 Socialist : 1 General Hertzog's majority over his! Nationalist opponent was reduced in the final count, i General Smuts' majority was 2000 votes. It is expected Senator C. F. Clarkson, Minister of Posts, and the onlyi Natal member of the Cabinet, will resign. Mr. P. G. W. Grobler, Minister, of Native Affairs, did not seek re-elec-tion owing to ill-health. General Hertzog, with a clear majority of 73, will proceed to reconstruct his Cabinet.
